Subject: The College of Winterhold

Per the request of the Jarl of Winterhold, I have performed investigation into the various incidents that have left their mark on Skyrim and depleted the College recently. I may note in no uncertain terms after these long searches, many ending only in corpses and tragedy, that his position in opposition to their continued running is not the paranoia it first seems, but completely fair and logical. Here are a few of the facts.

Firstly, the account of the missing students of two separate occasions, one set with its own formal investigator- the children of the first trapped a Daedra in a gauntlet, but were murdered in the Midden Dark and left to rot there. The second set were slain around the province and totally unmissed by their teachers, save one, who seemed surprised to even contemplate a time they were absent.

Secondly, the mass murdering renegade Destruction teacher Festus Krex, a member of the Black Brotherhood unrestrained and unreported by the instructors. "Just do what I do. Walk up to them, introduce yourself, melt all their skin off, and run like the wind. Works every time."

Thirdly, the testimony of Falion of Morthal, who reported hating where the College was heading and abandoned his own teaching post at Conjuration to instead slum it in Morthal, which is quite a statement evident in and of itself.

Fourthly, the renegades of Fellglow Keep, wherein an entire class of wizards abandoned the College and stole their work without repercussion or recourse. Attempting to summon something far more dangerous than previously allowed, they and their Caller added a great deal of weight to the natives' mistrust of magic.

Fifthly, the mad necromancer Malyn Varen, also a former teacher- but one of enchanting, at that-, who murdered students in plain view and absconded with others to Ilinyata's Deep with a Daedric artifact. Although content to formally exile him, the College provided no information to authorities in government, daedra hunting, or mage maintenance, and went no further themselves. The bones of the victims of this decision litter the tower, and their souls have long since been consumed.

Sixth, the mad biologist Hamelyn, who aspired to overthrow the surface world with biologically enhanced skeevers after being booted from, but not imprisoned, executed, or treated by, The College of Winterhold.

Seventh, the Butcher of Windhelm, one Calixto Corrium, a serial murderer and itinerant necromancer well familiar with the College methods.

They are incompetent, irresponsible, destructive, and a menace to the people of the city- indeed province- at large, their rogues reaching far and wide. Their current teaching staff outnumbers the faculty students, and many are less than truly proficient at their craft to boot.
